After exploring the bustling streets of Surabaya, we headed inland into the heart of East Java a region known for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, deep-rooted traditions, and breathtaking natural wonders.

We started in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, where we witnessed one of the most unforgettable sunrises of our lives. Standing on the Savanna Plateau, overlooking the smoldering crater of Mount Bromo, we were mesmerized by the golden light breaking over the horizon. The journey through sand sea and up the steep steps to the crater rim was challenging but completely worth it.

From there, we made our way to Malang, a city rich in Dutch colonial architecture and surrounded by lush highland scenery. We explored the colorful streets of Batu, visited strawberry farms, and enjoyed the cool mountain breeze at Coban Rondo Waterfall a serene spot tucked away in the forests near the city.

Next, we traveled further east to Blitar, home to the final resting place of Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno , and several ancient temples from the Majapahit era. The quiet dignity of this town gave us a deeper appreciation for East Java’s historical significance.

A highlight of our trip was visiting Taman Nasional Alas Purwo in Banyuwangi, often called the “Birthplace of Java” according to Javanese legend. The wild coastline, untouched beaches, and sacred atmosphere made it feel like stepping into a forgotten world. We also explored the stunning Blue Fire Crater at Ijen, where sulfur miners still work under harsh conditions an unforgettable experience both visually and emotionally.

In Jember and Bondowoso, we got a taste of rural East Java from coffee plantations to traditional villages where local customs are still preserved. The warmth of the people and their pride in Sundanese and Javanese heritage left a lasting impression.

Throughout our travels in East Java, we were amazed by the raw power of nature and the resilience of its people. From towering volcanoes to ancient ruins, from misty forests to rugged coastlines East Java offers adventure and discovery at every turn.

As we reflected on our journey, we realized that East Java had given us more than just beautiful sights, it had deepened our understanding of Indonesia’s natural forces, history, and cultural diversity in ways we hadn’t expected.
